Pre Operative Vasectomy Instructions
- Take it easy today and for the next ten (10) days NO heavy work such as cutting grass, shoveling snow, or climbing ladders.
- If bleeding should occur with more than a few spots on underwear, call the physician.
- If swelling occurs (about the size of a tennis ball), call the physician.
- Medication is given to prevent infection - take as directed.
- Take birth control precautions until sperm count is taken and no sperm is present.
- Call 847.723.6298 to arrange an appointment to bring in an ejaculation specimen. This is done at 12 weeks and 16 weeks for sperm evaluation. DONE BY APPOINTMENT ONLY.
- Sexual relations may be resumed 10 days after the vasectomy procedure, but remember to use birth control measures.
- Over the counter medication can be used for pain. (No aspirin for 7 days)
- An ice bag may be applied to the scrotum. An athletic supporter should be worn.
- Sutures do not have to be removed, they will dissolve by themselves.
- You may shower the day after surgery but no baths, swimming, or hot tubs for 7-10 days.
